Heroism and struggle expressed in the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, reflected his personal tragedies, including his loss of hearing and his turbulent family life. This cover, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, reproduces the original score of the Violin and Piano Sonata no. 10, G major, written in 1812

The works of the greatest German composer and musician Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827) are distinguished by an unsurpassed level of skill and their emotional sincerity. Thematically, his music is a reflection of mental strength and trials, reminiscent of tragic events in his own life, including hearing loss and endless family worries. Beethoven occupies a special position in the history of music, since with him it passed from the Romantic to the Classical era, and at the same time, to this day he remains among the most famous and respected composers.

Most often, Beethoven's creative career is divided into three periods - early, middle and late. It is significant that the works that are most admired and considered the most important of all that he composed belong to the last decade of his life - that is, precisely to the period of time when he lived and worked practically without hearing.

The music notation that graces the covers of this issue, from the pen of Beethoven himself, is the Violin Sonata No. 10 in G major, the last sonata the composer created for this instrument. He wrote it especially for Pierre Rode, the famous French violinist, and for the first time this composition was performed by him and Archduke Rudolf, to whom it was dedicated.

Those interested can admire this original musical notation by visiting the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York. We first published a cover using this archival material in 2007, and added it to the “Decorated Manuscripts” design collection. Now, twelve years later, we are honored to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the great composer's birth by releasing a new design in the "Special Edition" format. We hope this publication inspires you to create your own masterpieces.
