More information about this design:
Our cover, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the death of Alexandre Dumas, pays tribute to the master of French literature. The front cover shows an excerpt from the draft manuscript of the novel “The Count of Monte Cristo,” and the back cover shows an illustration of the prison where the Count languished. Dumas remains one of the most popular writers in the world to this day.
In honor of the 150th anniversary of the death of Alexandre Dumas (1802–1870), one of the greatest French writers of all time, we have prepared a new title for the Special Editions series. To create it, we used a draft of the novel The Count of Monte Cristo, written by Dumas himself. As a writer and playwright, he was a significant figure in the period when art was dominated by the movement known as “Romanticism.” Known to everyone as the author of books in the genre of historical adventures, he is, of course, primarily famous for his novels The Count of Monte Cristo (1844–1845) and The Three Musketeers (1844). By the end of his days, Dumas managed to publish more than a hundred thousand pages.
In addition to the fact that he is one of the most popular French writers in the whole world, Dumas was also notable for using his writing talent in various fields. Thus, at the beginning of his literary career, he wrote plays, many of which were staged at the Historical Theater (Th??tre Historique) in Paris, which he founded in 1846. Over time, he began publishing articles in magazines and travel books, and in 1861 he founded and began publishing the Independent Newspaper (L'Indipendente), which supported the creation of a unified Italian state.
Dumas led what is called a lavish lifestyle, which included frequent travel, including to Belgium, Russia and Italy. As for his novel The Count of Monte Cristo, its events take place in France, Italy and the Mediterranean islands from 1815 to 1839, i.e. cover the period before Napoleon's return from exile and the restoration of his rule, as well as the era of the reign of King Louis Philippe. The historical background is one of the important components of the book, and exciting adventures provoke the reader to think about hope, justice, retribution, mercy and forgiveness of offense. Today this book is considered a classic of literature.
The cover of the magazine is decorated with a manuscript on the front, and on its back side there is a picture of the prison where the count was imprisoned. We hope this “Special Issue” gets you inspired to create your own story of adventure and enduring hope.
