“The Struggle of the Worlds,” or as it is more commonly called after the first book edition, “The War of the Worlds,” is rightfully considered the most famous novel by H.G. Wells. In any case, in terms of the number of film adaptations and radio plays, that’s for sure. In 1976, Jeff Wayne even wrote the rock opera War of the Worlds.
Invasion of an alien race, far ahead both scientifically and technologically of the inhabitants of the Earth. The inhuman cruelty of aliens and the seemingly inevitable destruction of the entire earthly civilization. Gloomy and creepy pictures of destroyed London and other British cities, painted with frightening realism. It would seem that humanity is doomed. And although salvation for the Earth and earthlings comes at the most unexpected moment from the direction from which no one expected it or even expected it, the thinking reader always involuntarily thinks: “Is our existence really so safe today? Isn’t humanity too careless, still overly immersed only in its momentary problems?”
Translation by Emilia Pimenova.
