The seal is a necessary component of the hookah for its sealing.

Why is the tightness of a hookah important?
If the hookah has old, dry or torn seals, or the wrong size seals, then there is a very high probability that the seal of the hookah will be compromised.
What does this affect? A hookah in which there is outside access to air will mix smoke with air and for this reason the smoke may not be saturated or even very weak. First of all, you may think that the hookah is not working properly, or that the tobacco is bad. In fact, most likely it will be enough to replace the seal with a new, sufficiently dense one.
