Description
Contemporaries called Lope de Vega (1562 - 1635), the creator of Spanish national drama, “a miracle of nature” and “a phoenix among writers.” More than 2000 plays, 21 volumes of poetic and epic works - such is the artist’s creative contribution not only to Spanish but also to world culture. This edition includes two of the most famous plays by the Spanish playwright - the historical play “Sheep Krynitsa” and the comedy “Dog in the Manger”. The plot of “Sheep Krynica” is based on a historical fact of 1476 - an uprising of the peasants of the town of Fuente Ovejuna (Sheep Krynica) against Senor Fernan Gomez de Guzman, which ended with his murder. "Dog in the Manger" is the story of the noble and wealthy Countess Diana de Belleflore. In love with her secretary Teodoro, Diana does not dare to give free rein to her heart or give her beloved to another, because noble honor becomes an obstacle to her passion. Tristan, a resourceful rogue, comes to the aid of the lovers, and Teodoro suddenly turns into a nobleman and nobleman, not inferior to Diana either in fortune or in the long history of his family. Lope de Vega's plays have stood the test of time with honor and are now successfully performed on many theater stages.
