Description
Nikolai Khvylevoy (real name Nikolai Fitilev, 1893-1933) - poet, master of psychological short stories with elements of romanticism, one of the founders of post-revolutionary Ukrainian prose; Founding member of literary organizations - "Harth", WAPLITE, "Prolitfront". The first collection of his short stories, “Blue Studies,” was highly praised by literary critics of the time.
Per M. Khvylevy is characterized by stylistic originality, the destruction of traditional plot-story models of Ukrainian prose. A system of broken phrases, fragmentary thoughts, a peculiar rhythm of prose - these are signs of his writing style. Revolutionary events, chaos in the country and despondency gave rise to a new personality, a person with a split psyche. The writer singles out a person from the stream of history, shows his psycho-spiritual worldview at the moment when he is in a state of spiritual despair, duality: he strives for a wonderful, bright future and understands his own doom. The artist contrasts imaginary and real episodes, illuminates the problem of the discrepancy between dreams and reality; depicts a suffering, rebellious person who is in tragic contradiction with the outside world.
In the “Native” series, collections of works by N. Khvylovy “I (Romance)”, “Woodcocks”, etc. were also published.
