About < b > Gregoria Babenko, the author of exciting historical stories, until now nothing was known - neither when he was born, nor when he died. And just recently we managed to throw a little light on this extraordinary author.

He graduated from Kharkov University in 1911, and from a young age he became interested in history, even corresponding with Dmitry Yavornitsky.

Judging by how well Babenko describes Slobozhanshchina, we can assume that he was born there. He worked as a doctor, and since 1928 he was in charge of the medical unit in the city of Pologi, Zaporozhye region.

It was in Pologi that he wrote < b > the story “The Stormy Path” - about the events in Ukraine during the time of Ivan Sirko and the uprising of 1668 through the eyes of a small guy. And even before that he published a story about the life of the monasteries “In the Fog of the Past” (1927) and a story “People from the Red Rock” (1929) - about the stone age. The author's last publication is the adventure story “The Price of Youth,” published in Kharkov in 1932. Since then, no information about the writer has been found.

The historical stories of Grigory Babenko have not lost their appeal even now. And the boldness with which he described the colonization of Ukraine by the Muscovites is frankly surprising. Because no other author of historical works published in the USSR dared to do this.

These stories will be of interest to both the younger and older generations. Exciting adventures, rich language - all this is very modern, so these little-known works of the past are worth reprinting and new reading.
