Description
The greatest wealth of Leiba Kantolinski, the owner of a small workshop on the outskirts of Polish Kielce, was his family: his wife Rachel, son David and two little daughters - Rivka and Toibe. Leaving home for just a few days, he could not even imagine that he would see them for the last time, because the next day the war would begin, the Germans would occupy Poland, and his relatives would disappear in the fires of the Holocaust.
Having fought for six years in the Home Army, Leiba returns to Kielce, which is not at all what it was before the war: out of forty thousand Jews who lived in the city, barely two hundred people remained alive, Leiba’s house was destroyed, and there are not even graves to worship. And only a meeting with Petrik, a mute Polish guy who lost his parents on the first day of the war, brings him back to life. Since then, their destinies have been surprisingly intertwined. Together they will have to experience human malice and kindness, the joy of the miraculous return of Rivka, the tragedy of the terrible pogrom of the Jews in 1946 and the finding of a new homeland.
