The ballpoint pen Fisher Space Pen was invented by the American inventor and entrepreneur Paul Fisher in the 60s of the 20th century, when humanity began to actively explore the vastness of outer space, Paul Fisher came up with the idea of ​​​​creating a fountain pen that could function in such extreme conditions. As a result of countless experiments and huge financial investments, a special cartridge was invented in which thixotropic ink was pressurized with compressed nitrogen.

According to the creator, a pen with such a cartridge could write in any conditions: in zero gravity, under water, on wet and greasy paper, at any angle, even in an inverted position, as well as at extremely low or high temperatures. NASA scientists became interested in the invention, and after extensive testing, the pen was approved for use in space. By 1968, the pen had already been produced specifically for astronaut flights and is successfully used today.

The secret of the Fisher Space Pen is that the ball, made of tungsten carbide, is very precisely installed in the tip of the rod, which reduces the consumption of thixotropic ink: solid in its normal state, it liquefies when writing. In addition, they are located in a special cartridge under pressure of compressed nitrogen, separated by a movable “float”.

The Fisher Space Pen series Bullet were developed almost 60 years ago (1948 to be exact) and are still the most popular by the company's handles. For many years, pens of this model have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
