Description

The Mediterranean bush called rosemary was known to the ancient Romans and Greeks. Even then, its flowers and leaves were used as a seasoning for various dishes. In addition, rosemary was used to obtain fragrant oil for the production of perfume. In the sixteenth century, medicinal wine was brewed from it.

It is worth buying rosemary for its aroma. If you rub a few needle leaves between your fingers, the air will be filled with a pleasant smell with a light note of pine, citrus and camphor, which is difficult to confuse with something else. It was he who made the plant so popular among chefs, who even add it to compotes, especially the French and Italians. This is a way to diversify baked goods or enrich meat with an original aroma.

Using rosemary leaves

This small bush hides many healing properties. It contains substances that promote brain function, improve memory and performance. Essential oils help relieve stress, normalize the functioning of the cardiovascular and nervous systems, and tinctures from the leaves are used for rheumatism, thrombosis and hypotension. The price of rosemary seems too low considering the enormous benefits it brings to the body. It is recommended for use by those who are on a diet, because it perfectly cleanses the body and helps normalize the water-fat balance, restoring metabolism.

The spice is used in European and Asian cuisine in dried and fresh form. Rosemary leaves are found in many spicy mixtures, among which Provençal and Italian herbs are considered the most common. It goes well with:

  • meat;
  • fish;
  • potatoes;
  • pasta;
  • mushrooms;
  • vegetables;
  • soups;
  • sauces;
  • pizza;
  • dishes made from peas or beans;
  • salads;
  • snacks;
  • alcoholic drinks (wine, liqueurs, punch, grog).

It is just not recommended to combine it with bay leaf and use it in excessive quantities, because in this case it can even worsen the taste of the dish.
