Description

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121-180), the Roman emperor, whose personal writings became a philosophical revelation for his descendants, who called him “the philosopher on the throne,” was forced to spend his life on military campaigns. His “Reflections” (“Alone with Myself”) were born in the 70s. II century n. e. in a camping tent. "Life is a struggle and wandering in a foreign land. But what can lead us on the path? Nothing but philosophy. Death has no relation to us; when we exist, it does not exist; when it exists, we no longer exist "(Marcus Aurelius). An astute observer endowed with rare intuition, Marcus Aurelius Antoninus preached humility and asceticism. In this, his ethical views, ideas about the mind and soul, turned out to be close to the teachers of the Church and influenced Christian thinkers from Blessed Jerome to L. N. Tolstoy
