Description
Love and the plague have the same symptoms.
“I am a born optimist,” the Colombian prose writer García Márquez concluded his Nobel lecture with these words. The first work published after the award was the novel “Love in the Time of Plague” (1985), which would later be called the most “optimistic” of all his works.
On the pages of the novel, the story of love comes to life, conquering everything - time and space, life's adversities and even the imperfection of the human soul. The dark-skinned beauty Fermina rejected the youthful love of her childhood friend Fiorentino Ariza and chose to become the wife of Dr. Juvenal Urbino, a scientist who dreams of ridding the Spanish colonies of their deadly scourge - the plague. But Fiorentino does not lose hope. He waits - waits and loves.
The eternal theme, mystical and exotic surroundings and, of course, the magical talent of the author make the novel unforgettable.
The book was filmed in 2007. Aris was played by Javier Bardem.
