Honduras is a country that has excellent conditions for cultivating coffee. The climate, soil and other components of successful grain growing are very similar to neighboring countries. In general, Honduras produces quality coffees, from inexpensive blending varieties to high-altitude specialty coffees that compete with other popular Central American coffees.
In the past, Honduran farmers transported their crops to Guatemala because the region's high reputation allowed it to sell coffee for a higher price. After the introduction of export duties in the coffee business, the country made considerable efforts to increase production volumes and improve the quality of grain. This led to an increase in demand for coffee from Honduras, and the need to transport the grain was eliminated.
The government of Honduras, together with farmers, have made it their mission to improve the quality characteristics of the coffee grown. A number of laws were passed to provide benefits to producers, and roads were built to connect remote plantations.
The abbreviation SHG (Strictly High Grown) means that the coffee is grown at an altitude of more than 1350 meters above sea level; and this, in turn, gives the specialty cup very bright shades. This classification is higher than HG.
EP (European Preparation) - means that the crop has been sorted by hand to remove defective grains.
