Cream-ICON 2: Double Disc Version-2CD 19.07.2011-Polydor Ltd. (UK)/UMG Recordings, Inc. - 600753349526-500 grn
Blues guitar virtuoso Eric Clapton, improvisational drum wizard Ginger Baker and the rich voice plus amped up bass grooves of Jack Bruce all combined make up the iconic 60s supergroup Cream. This two-disk version of Creams ICON entry gathers 18 tracks featuring "best" of the seminal power trios recordings from 1966-1969. All the usual suspects are contained on the studio disk, including "Sunshine of Your Love", "Strange Brew", "White Room", and "Tales of Brave Ulysses." The second disk is devoted to live recordings, highlighted by such classic performances as "Crossroads", "Rollin and Tumblin", and "Sweet Wine", which clocks in at 15:16. ICON 2 is the better set in the series, as it provides an excellent contrast between the intensity and improvisation of Cream’s live gigs and their relatively straightforward approach in the studio.
