Description
The life of the outstanding writer of the twentieth century Mikhail Bulgakov (1891-1940) in itself is worthy of becoming the plot of a literary work. Service in the White Guard, the hated practice of a zemstvo doctor and drug addiction, censorship bans on works and love madness, a fatal diagnosis and work on “The Master and Margarita” in a race with death. . . His duel with fate was doomed to defeat in life and posthumous fame, but his books still evoke admiration, love, fierce debate and have undoubted success all over the world.
Mikhail Bulgakov's main plays "Days of the Turbins" and "Running" are a kind of chronicle of events, seen through the prism of the perception of "children of the terrible years of Russia": a noble family caught in the whirlpool of the civil war, and emigrants thrown out by the revolution outside of their home country. The book also includes the caustic tragicomedy “Zoyka’s Apartment,” which tells the story of an elite brothel hidden under the guise of a sewing workshop. In the play "Crimson Island", an allegorical depiction of the events of the 1917 revolution and the civil war, Bulgakov for the first time addresses the problem of "artist - power".
