tablets Dexamethasone of KRK are shown at palliative treatment of tumors.

Structure

Active ingredient: dexamethasone;

1 tablet contains 20 mg or 40 mg of dexamethasone;

Excipients: lactoses monohydrate, starch corn, silicon dioxide colloidal, magnesium stearate.

Contraindication

• Hypersensitivity to active ingredient or any of excipients.
• System infection if appropriate anti-infectious therapy is not performed.
• Ulcer of stomach or duodenum.
• Vaccination by live vaccine at treatment by high therapeutic doses of dexamethasone (and other corticosteroids) because of a possibility of a viral infection.

Route of administration

Dexamethasone should be accepted in time or right after meal to minimize irritation of digestive tract. It is necessary to avoid consumption of the drinks containing alcohol or caffeine.

Tablet can be divided into equal parts and to provide additional doses of 2 mg and 10 mg for simplification of swallowing of a tablet for the patient. When performing therapy every other day is impossible, the general daily dose of glucocorticoids can usually be applied in the form of a single morning dose however some patients divisions of daily doses of glucocorticoids need.

Pregnant

Dexamethasone during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, it is necessary to appoint, only if the advantage outweighs risks for mother and the child.

Children

Range of initial doses of dexamethasone is 0.08-0.3 mg/kg a day or 2.5 mg-10 of mg/m ² body surface areas in day in 3-4 receptions.

Drivers

Is forbidden to steer motor transport, to work with mechanisms or to perform dangerous tasks.

Overdose

Symptoms. About acute toxicity and/or fatal cases after overdose of GKS it was reported seldom.

Overdose or prolonged use can enhance side effects of glucocorticoids.

Treatment. Antidote does not exist. Symptomatic treatment and supporting. Reduction of a dosage of dexamethasone or slow the reception terminations is provided if it is possible.

Side effects

Frequency of the expected side reactions correlates with relative activity of substance, a dose, time of reception and lasting treatments. Risk of side effects low during short-term therapy on condition of observance of recommendations about a dosage and carrying out careful observation of patients.

Usual side effects of short-term treatment by dexamethasone (days of the week) include increase in body weight, a mental disorder, violation of tolerance to glucose and temporary insufficiency of adrenal glands. Long-term treatment by dexamethasone (months/years), as a rule, causes the central obesity, vulnerability of skin, an atrophy of muscles, osteoporosis, delay of growth and long-term insufficiency of adrenal glands.

Interaction

Before use of dexamethasone of KRK in combination with any other medicine the instruction for use of this medicine.

Thalidomide. The special attention is required by simultaneous application with thalidomide as cases of a toxic epidermal necrolysis were registered.

Chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine and meflokhin. The increased risk of development of a myopathy and cardiomyopathy.

cholinesterase Inhibitors. Simultaneous use of inhibitors of cholinesterase and corticosteroids can lead to serious muscle weakness at patients with a myasthenia. If it is possible, it is necessary to stop use of inhibitors of cholinesterase at least in 24 hours prior to therapy by corticosteroids.
